I help people get through divorce without wrecking themselves in the process.

I came to family law from an unusual direction. I earned my JD at NYU School of Law and spent five years as an associate at WilmerHale, one of the top law firms in the world, practicing white collar defense on behalf of Wall Street institutions and some of the largest corporations on the planet. Serious work, and I was good at it.

What I found, though, was that I wanted to work for people rather than institutions. There's nothing wrong with the corporate work — it's demanding and it matters to the people paying for it. But it isn't the same as sitting across from someone whose life is coming apart and being genuinely useful to them. I wanted more of the second thing.

I've since been fortunate to work alongside some of the leading family law attorneys in Los Angeles, on everything from straightforward dissolutions to high-conflict litigation involving hundreds of millions of dollars. I've also spent many hours doing pro bono work at the Harriett Buhai Center for Family Law, counseling and advocating for dozens of clients inside and outside the courtroom.

Here's what all of that taught me: litigation isn't a winning strategy for most people. Not financially, not emotionally — not even when they win. I watched it happen over and over, from both sides. I also went through a contested California divorce myself, at a young age, so I know what it looks like from the inside.

So I built my practice around the opposite approach, in three forms. As a mediator, I work with both spouses to resolve a California divorce from the first conversation to the final judgment. As a consulting attorney, I advise one person individually — someone mediating with a different neutral, negotiating directly with their spouse, or just trying to understand where they stand before they agree to anything. As a divorce coach, I work with individuals anywhere in the country on the parts of divorce that aren't legal at all: the decisions, the hard conversations, the sheer weight of it.

Different services, same idea. Resolve things instead of escalating them — without spending your kids' college fund to prove a point.

I started Amicable-ish Divorce because most divorcing couples don't need a war. They need a process — fair, guided, and human — that helps them reach agreements and move on with their lives. I work with couples and individuals throughout California for mediation and consulting, entirely remotely across all counties — and with individuals nationwide for divorce coaching.

I'm not going to promise you this will be easy. But I will promise you it doesn't have to be the worst experience of your life.

When I'm not working, I play guitar, win at pub trivia, lose at golf, and pretend that I'm slowly getting better at chess. I am also the author of the soon-to-be-published book The Dignified Dude's Guide to Divorce: How Not Being an A**hole Will Save Your Money, Sanity, and Happiness.

(In the meantime, you can find the official Dignified Dude's Guide to Divorce Playlist here.)

My philosophy on divorce

Too many lawyers treat conflict as a business model. More fighting means more billable hours — and that incentive structure is at direct odds with what's good for you. I think that's not only a rip-off, it's genuinely harmful. A prolonged adversarial divorce doesn't just cost money. It can permanently color how you remember years of your life.

I built this practice around the opposite incentive: flat-fee packages that give everyone — you and me both — a reason to work efficiently and reach resolution. The goal is always to get you to the other side of this as intact as possible.
